The Deputy Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and Chairman Anambra North Traditional Rulers Council Igwe Prof. Benjamin Okeji, has called for the practice of true federalism in Nigeria as the way forward toward unlocking the economic prosperity of the nation.

In a press statement in Awka ahead of Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary, Igwe Okeji doubling as the Chairman Southern Traditional Rulers Council Anambra State Chapter and the traditional ruler of Omasi, reckoned that celebrating Nigeria without sincerity of purpose is a mirage.

He advocated that full autonomy be granted to all the six geopolitical zones of the country to develop according to their capacities.

Igwe Okeji spoke in favour of the creation of a state police to decentralize the current central police force existing in the federation, submitting that a state police will guarantee effective security and policing in the geo political zones, even as he regretted that close to 65 years of the nation’s existence, Nigeria is still chasing shadows.

He praised the efforts of the nation’s founding fathers such as the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr.Michael Okpala, others in laying a solid foundation for a modern Nigeria but lamented that the Nigerian nation for now has fallen below the expectations of their dreams.

Igwe Okeji commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for towing the path of progress in the development of the state.
