The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, announced that the Soludo administration is making significant plans to establish a home for the elderly in the state aimed at providing care and a social environment for seniors. The Commissioner emphasized that many elderly individuals suffer and pass away quickly due to lack of companionship and care.
Mr. Onyenji made these remarks during the courtesy visit of the Oldies Noble Club Anambra to his office at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka.
“I hope your club is focused on a well-defined age milestone because if it is not clearly defined, it may end up like any other social club. People want to know how the elderly are being cared for, and this clarity will attract support to your organization,” he said.
The Commissioner also promised to attend their upcoming event.
In his speech, the President of the Oldies Noble Club Anambra, Noble Ifeanyi Hyco Uyanne, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for the warm welcome they received. He highlighted that their club is a corporate body registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Abuja as a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to providing care and companionship to elderly individuals, especially those who are poor, sick, weak, or lonely.
“Our mission in establishing this organization is to ensure that our elderly men and women can socialize, remain economically active, live healthy and fulfilling lives. We also plan to establish chapters of our club in all communities throughout Anambra State to bring social, economic, and healthcare services directly to elderly people in our society,” he added.
He invited the Commissioner to their public launch of the Oldies Noble Club Anambra, scheduled for October 11, at King David Hotel, Awka at 12 PM.
