The Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Ikechukwu Okakpu, on Oct. 5, directed traders in the area to maintain cleanliness and orderliness in their markets.
Okakpu gave the directive during an inspection of Oye Agu Abagana Market, Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market and Afor Nawfia Market.
He was accompanied by his Deputy, Hon. Ifunanya Nwanadile, and the 18 ward councillors.

The mayor urged traders and market leaders to make sanitation a priority and avoid indiscriminate disposal of refuse and other practices that could endanger public health.
He said the inspection was part of efforts by his administration to improve sanitation and orderliness in markets across the council area.
Okakpu also directed traders operating along road corridors to relocate their goods and activities to designated market stalls.
He said roadside trading exposed traders and customers to avoidable risks, while obstructing traffic and contributing to congestion.
The mayor urged market leaders, traders and union executives to support the council’s sanitation efforts by taking responsibility for cleanliness and maintaining discipline in their respective markets.
He assured the traders that his administration would continue to engage market stakeholders on measures to improve market infrastructure and create a conducive environment for businesses.
Okakpu said the initiative was also in line with the Anambra State Government’s efforts to promote a clean, green and sustainable environment.
The inspection was attended by market leaders, traders and other stakeholders.
