The newly inaugurated Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Ikechukwu Okakpu, has pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on development, accountability, security and effective service delivery.
Okakpu made the commitment on Oct. 3, during his inauguration as the council’s chief executive.
He described his assumption of office as a responsibility to serve and develop the people of Njikoka, while thanking the electorate for their support and confidence.
The mayor commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his development agenda and pledged to align his administration with the state’s policies while addressing the needs of residents.
Okakpu identified security, infrastructure, youth empowerment, women development, education, agriculture, environmental protection and good governance as priority areas.
He pledged to collaborate with the police, other security agencies, vigilante groups, traditional institutions and community stakeholders to strengthen security and protect lives and property in the council area.
The mayor also promised to pursue improvements in roads, water supply, electricity and public facilities, alongside programmes to promote youth skills development, entrepreneurship, digital capacity, sports and agriculture.
Okakpu urged local government workers to demonstrate dedication and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing the need for responsive public service.
He appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote peace and resolve differences through dialogue.
Okakpu assured residents that his administration would be non discriminatory and transparent, saying it would focus on the collective development of Njikoka and contribute to the progress of Anambra and Nigeria.
