The Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu on July 7, received a delegation of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners. Anambra State Chapter to a courtesy visit in his office in Amawbia. Awka South Local Government Area.
In his address, the commissioner urged members of the institute to uphold professionalism and ensure that their reports comply with the provisions of the Physical Planning Law.
While reiterating that every drawing of the proposed structure must be provided with the required facilities captured there in. in line with the building law , adding that any developer who fails to meet the stipulated standard should be issued a query instead of being recommended for approval.
Furthermore, Barr. Ojukwu disclosed plans to engage professional town planners to develop a comprehensive urban planning framework for the state. According to him, the initiative will involve zoning designated areas for agriculture, industry and other key sectors to ensure orderly growth and sustainable development across the state.
Reacting, the Chairman of the institute Anambra Chapter, Town Planner Ifeanyi Igwilo on behalf of the members congratulated Mr Commissioner on his appointment as the pioneer commissioner of the ministry while seeking for synergy between the ministry and the Institute for a sustainable state.
He therefore emphasised that any member that failed to abide by professional standards when practicing should be reported to the Top Rec for further disciplinary action against the defaulter.
Igwilo advocated the review and renewal of existing development plans to ensure they reflect contemporary realities and meet the demands of sustainable urban development.
‘We aim to develop plans that would guide the future of the state and guide urban renewal of urban areas that have degenerated” he added.
