Residents of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State came out in large numbers on Saturday to participate in the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise, with youths of the community playing a prominent role in the cleanup activities.
The sanitation exercise, which took place across major roads, markets, drainage channels, and public spaces within the community, was aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment in line with the vision of the Anambra State Government under Governor Prof. Chukwuma Chukwuma Soludo.
Speaking during the exercise, some community members praised the commitment of Ogbunike youths who actively joined other residents in clearing refuse, desilting drainage systems, and maintaining public spaces.

Mr. Ikenna Okafor, a resident, described the exercise as a collective responsibility that contributes to public health and environmental sustainability.
“Our youths have demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility today. A clean environment helps prevent diseases and creates a better atmosphere for everyone,” he said.
Another resident, Mrs. Ngozi Eze, commended Governor Soludo’s administration for sustaining the monthly sanitation programme, noting that it has encouraged communities across the state to take environmental cleanliness more seriously.
“The government’s emphasis on cleanliness and environmental management is yielding positive results. We can see greater awareness among residents, especially the younger generation,” she stated.
Some of the participating youths also expressed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote community development and environmental protection.
They noted that the sanitation exercise aligns with Governor Soludo’s broader agenda of transforming Anambra into a clean, smart, green, and livable homeland.
The participants called on residents to maintain proper waste disposal habits and keep their surroundings clean beyond the monthly exercise.
Governor Soludo’s administration has consistently emphasized environmental sanitation as a key component of its development agenda, encouraging communities and stakeholders to work together in creating a healthier and more sustainable Anambra State.
