The Mayor of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, is set to commission a newly reconstructed and fully equipped science laboratory at Government Technical College, Umuchu, on Sept. 22.
The project, which was initiated several months ago, is aimed at providing students of the only technical college in Aguata with a modern facility for practical learning, scientific research and skills development.
Dr Ofobuike embarked on the complete reconstruction of the laboratory after observing the dilapidated condition of the former facility. The laboratory was cleared of its ruins, reconstructed and equipped to provide a conducive learning environment where students can gain practical knowledge and develop essential scientific skills.
As part of the commissioning ceremony, the mayor will also institute the Chibueze Ofobuike Prize for STEM Excellence, which will be awarded to the best male and female students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines. The initiative is designed to encourage academic excellence, promote practical learning and stimulate greater interest in STEM education among students.
According to the mayor, investing in the education and development of young people remains a priority, adding that his administration is committed to initiatives that will positively impact lives and help shape the future of the younger generation.
