The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Comprehensive Medical Centre (CMC), Awkuzu, Dr. Adaobi Odina, has urged women to disregard myths about breast cancer and seek prompt medical attention when they notice unusual changes in their breasts.
Odina made the call on Oct. 14, during a special edition of the hospital’s weekly antenatal care class held as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

She said early detection was important in improving breast cancer treatment outcomes, urging women not to allow fear and misinformation to prevent them from seeking medical attention.
The CMD advised women to watch for warning signs, including lumps, swelling, changes in breast shape or skin appearance, and abnormal nipple discharge.
She stressed the need for prompt medical evaluation whenever such changes were noticed, noting that early diagnosis could improve treatment outcomes.
Odina also encouraged women to adopt healthy habits, prioritise their well being and consult qualified health professionals whenever they had concerns about their breast health.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed annually in October to raise awareness of the disease, promote early detection and encourage timely medical care. The pink ribbon is widely recognised as its symbol.
The antenatal care session focused on breast cancer awareness, early detection and the importance of seeking professional medical advice rather than relying on myths and unverified information.
