The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has strengthened its workplace health and safety campaign with the certification of two businesses in Awka following a health compliance exercise conducted in partnership with the State Ministry of Environment.
The exercise, which began on Oct. 14, covered Candles Restaurant&Lounge and Reserve Restaurant&Apartments as part of efforts to encourage businesses to prioritise the health and well being of their employees.
The initiative is designed to promote early detection of health conditions, improve access to essential health services and encourage safer working environments across Anambra State. It is also expected to expand to all 21 Local Government Areas(LGA).
Leading the inspection team, Chidiogo David Okafor, Unit Lead of the Workplace and Community Awareness Brigade, coordinated health screenings for employees at the two establishments.
The screenings covered HIV, hepatitis B and C, malaria and blood pressure, alongside chest X-rays, providing an opportunity for employees to assess aspects of their health and seek further medical attention where necessary.
Following the exercise, both businesses received certificates of compliance.
The programme aligns with the Anambra State Government’s broader public health objectives under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, with emphasis on building a healthier and more productive workforce.
ANSACA reiterated its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to improve workplace health standards, encouraging businesses to take practical steps towards protecting their employees.
The agency urged other establishments across the state to embrace workplace health initiatives, stressing that a healthy workforce is essential to productivity, employee welfare and sustainable business growth.
