The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (Ocha Brigade) has embarked on a sanitation exercise in Onitsha, Anambra State, to promote environmental cleanliness.
The agency’s operatives were spotted sweeping streets and clearing waste from drainages and surrounding areas at Upper Iweka axis, Niger Bridge Head, and Owerri Road
This initiative is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision to transform Anambra into a model state for cleanliness, health, and sustainable living.
The Ocha Brigade has been at the forefront of tackling indiscriminate waste disposal and related environmental offenses.
However, residents expressed concern over the persistent habit of dumping refuse, especially at night. “Some people even come out at night to dump refuse in the drainages. I don’t understand why some people refuse to comply with environmental laws in Anambra State,” a resident lamented.
The Ocha Brigade has warned residents and visitors to desist from littering the environment, reiterating its call to make proper use of waste bins provided across the city. Anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately will face the full weight of the law.
The agency’s efforts have been praised by residents, who acknowledge the positive impact on the environment. “The Ocha Brigade has done a great job in keeping our city clean,” Mrs. Uchenna Nneoma said.
