The Obu Nanka of Nanka, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, has commended Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, for dismantling criminal camps and ending the mandatory sit-at-home order in Anambra State.

Speaking during an interview on October 26, Igwe Ezeilo noted that the sit-at-home order had adversely affected economic activities across the state.

The royal father described Governor Soludo’s first tenure as one characterised by structural reforms, urban renewal and infrastructural development. He particularly highlighted the recruitment of teachers, the introduction of free primary and secondary education, and the construction and asphalting of roads as notable achievements.

The monarch expressed optimism that the governor’s second tenure would bring further economic transformation and industrialisation. He added that priorities should include the development of planned urban districts such as Next Onitsha and the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC).

At the grassroots level, the Obu Nanka called for the effective implementation of the Community Administration Law to address divisions within town unions and promote more unified local leadership structures.

On preventing conflicts among communities, the royal father identified unity among neighbouring communities as an important strategy for averting disputes, particularly those arising from land ownership and historical boundary disagreements. He advocated cultural festivals, football tournaments, economic cooperation and other social activities to strengthen relationships among communities.

Igwe Ezeilo stressed that community members have significant roles to play in supporting traditional rulers and strengthening local leadership to maintain peace and unity. He also emphasised the importance of a harmonious relationship between town union executives and traditional councils for effective governance.

On the role of traditional institutions in discouraging drug abuse and crime among youths, Igwe Ezeilo noted that, as custodians of culture and moral values, traditional rulers could help restore discipline by reinforcing community codes of conduct that discourage criminal activities, cultism, substance abuse and youth restiveness. He also called for young people to be engaged in skills acquisition programmes.

On the preservation of Igbo culture and tradition, the royal father urged youths to become proficient in speaking and writing the Igbo language, describing Asụsụ Igbo as a fundamental part of their identity and cultural heritage. He encouraged them to participate in town assemblies, age-grade associations and traditional festivals to help sustain cultural practices.

Igwe Ezeilo further urged youths to harness digital technology, social media and content creation to document and promote Igbo history, proverbs, folklore and traditional values, including the principle of “Ome Ife Jide Ofo,” which, he said, emphasises justice and fairness to people around the world.
