The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the area of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and working conditions.
The Mayor gave the assurance on October 8, when NYSC corps members serving in Idemili South paid him a courtesy visit in his office at council headquarters Ojoto.
The delegation was led by the Local Government Inspector, Comr. Muoghalu Kanayo, who introduced the corps members and presented issues concerning their welfare and the conditions under which they carry out their assignments.
Receiving the corps members, Hon. Ilogbenu assured them that their concerns would receive appropriate attention, stressing the importance of creating a conducive environment for them to perform their duties effectively.
He encouraged the corps members to remain dedicated to their assignments and contribute meaningfully to the development of the communities where they are serving.
The Mayor further highlighted the importance of the NYSC programme in exposing young Nigerians to different communities, cultures and public service responsibilities.
He urged the corps members to approach their service year with diligence, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility, noting that their contributions could make a positive difference in the lives of people within their host communities.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, a corps member, Igbinedion Prosper, expressed appreciation to the Mayor for receiving the delegation and listening to their concerns.
Prosper described the Mayor’s reception as encouraging and fatherly, while expressing optimism that the administration would continue to support corps members throughout their service year.
The meeting provided an early opportunity for the new administration to engage directly with young Nigerians serving in the Local Government and reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development.
