NUJ ANAMBRA NOMINATES UCHE KALU FOR LONG-TERM PROFESSIONAL SERVICE AWARD

‎The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has nominated veteran journalist and media practitioner, Comrade Uche Kalu, for its Long-Term Professional Service Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to journalism and public service over the past four decades.
‎
‎
‎The nomination was conveyed in a letter dated July 5, and signed by the leadership of the NUJ Anambra State Council, Comrade Emeka Odogwu.
‎
‎
‎According to the letter, the award followed a rigorous selection process during which a panel carefully scrutinised several nominees from across the state before unanimously selecting Comrade Kalu.
‎
‎
‎The council stated that Comrade Kalu distinguished herself through exceptional service in the media industry, exemplary leadership within the NUJ, commitment to journalism, peace building, education and mentorship. It noted that her remarkable achievements and sterling qualities earned her the honour of being recognised as one of the state’s outstanding media professionals.

‎The council further described the NUJ Anambra Long-Term Professional Service Award as a prestigious honour reserved for a select few journalists who have demonstrated excellence, dedication and professionalism throughout their careers.

‎
‎The award presentation will take place during the grand finale of the 35th Anniversary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, and the 2026 Press Week and Man of the Year Award Ceremony, scheduled for September 10, 2026.

‎
‎Responding, Comrade Kalu expressed delighted saying she never expected such honour and never know that all efforts in journalism work are countered and appreciated the NUJ. She said such gesture will also boast the morale of co-journalists that every hardworking deserve a reward and encouraged NUJ for such recognition and honour.

‎
‎Responding to the honour, Comrade Kalu expressed profound appreciation, describing the recognition as a pleasant surprise. She said she never imagined her contributions to journalism had been so closely observed and appreciated, and thanked the NUJ for finding her worthy of the honour.
‎
‎She noted that the recognition would serve as a source of motivation for journalists, stressing that diligence and dedication deserve to be acknowledged and rewarded. She also commended the NUJ for instituting the recognition initiative, describing it as a commendable step toward encouraging excellence in the profession.
