The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved three new undergraduate programmes for the University on the Niger (UniNiger), Umunya, following a resource verification exercise at the institution.

The newly approved programmes are Criminology and Security Studies, International Relations and Christian Theology.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, disclosed this in a statement on Sept. 25, saying the approval marked another step in the institution’s academic development.

Nebo said the NUC team assessed the university’s readiness in areas including academic resources, facilities, staffing and other requirements for effective delivery of the programmes.

He said the approval followed the university’s efforts to strengthen its academic resources and infrastructure.

According to him, the new programmes would broaden the university’s academic offerings and create opportunities for students interested in security and crime prevention, diplomacy and international affairs, as well as Christian theology and ministry.

Nebo said the development was consistent with the university’s commitment to providing education that combines academic knowledge, character, faith and leadership.

He added that the institution would continue to improve its academic programmes and resources to meet the educational needs of its students.
