The Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as flooding affects communities across the state.
Her appeal followed the tragic death of Success Ezenwafor, a pupil of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Primary School, Awka, who was swept away during heavy rainfall.
The pupil was among children travelling in a school shuttle bus that became trapped by floodwaters along the Awka-Nibo-Nise-Enugu-Ukwu Ring Road.
Seven pupils and two adults were rescued, while efforts to locate Success continued until his body was recovered on September 23.

Reacting to the development in a video message posted on her official Facebook page today, September 24, Dr Soludo described the rising flood incidents as deeply concerning.
“As a mother, my heart goes out to families already affected or at risk. At times like this, our first responsibility is to protect lives,” she said.
She urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert, follow safety advice, relocate when necessary, keep children away from floodwaters, and avoid driving through uncertain flood depths.
Dr Soludo also advised residents to protect important documents, check on elderly and vulnerable persons, properly dispose of waste, and provide appropriate channels for rainwater.
She appealed to communities to look out for one another, stressing that the Solution Administration would continue taking necessary measures to cushion difficulties and ensure the safety of Ndi Anambra.
