A two storey residential building has collapsed at Inyaba- Umudim Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on August 30, noting that no life was lost as at press time.
Following the development, the Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Bar Chijioke Ojukwu, visited the scene of the unfortunate incident to assess the situation.

“We have not been able to confirm if there is any casualty of life. What is important is that the building was poorly constructed. It was built without the requisite approval of the Ministry.
“It was built on a wall fence of an existing three storey building by a developer. We shall be evacuating all the occupants of the three store building which share the same compound with the collapsed two storey building”, he said.
Addressing other surrounding issues, he added that the three storey building would be subjected to a mandatory integrity test, and would be demolished in the event of failure to meet the requirements.
“We shall be carrying out symbolic demolitions of similar buildings which were built in perimeters of existing buildings violating set back rules and without the requisite approval”, the commissioner said.
Ojukwu, reiterated the commitment of the ministry to enforcing approved building standards, ensuring structural integrity, and protecting lives and property across the state.
