The Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Anazodo, has unveiled plans to modernise Nnewi’s markets in alignment with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s urban renewal agenda.
Speaking at a town hall meeting during the Nnewi community’s monthly gathering on Sunday, 3 May 2026, Hon. Anazodo stated that the Governor had provided a comprehensive framework for the administration’s development programme, with urban regeneration as a central pillar.
He emphasised that Nnewi must not be left behind in the state’s broader drive for renewal, noting that ongoing market reconstruction works, including the rebuilding of several shops, are already consistent with the government’s urbanisation objectives.
The Mayor also expressed concern over the proliferation of illegal structures within the markets, describing them as a violation of the approved master plan and pledging decisive action to address the issue.
Hon. Anazodo also reaffirm the local government’s commitment to sustaining its recently launched farmers’ empowerment initiative. Official records indicate that more than 400 farmers have benefited from the distribution of improved seedlings and other agricultural inputs, aimed at enhancing productivity and bolstering food security in the commercial and industrial hub, he added.
He further highlighted ongoing interventions in healthcare delivery and waste management across Nnewi North, and pledged to intensify these efforts a commitment that received commendation from community members present at the gathering.
