‎The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Anambra State Chapter, has proposed the establishment of a Department of Surveying at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) as part of efforts to strengthen professional education, academic excellence and workforce development.
‎
‎
‎The proposal was presented on July 9 during a courtesy visit by the Institution’s leadership to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Igbariam Campus, where the delegation also congratulated her on her appointment as the University’s fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor.
‎
‎
‎In attendance were members of the University’s management team, including Prof. Anselem Nweke, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Environmental Sustainability); Prof. Obiora Ejiofor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics); Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Uli Campus and Development Affairs); and Dr. Uche Enweani, Acting University Librarian.
‎
‎
‎Leading the delegation, the Chairman of the NIS Anambra State Chapter, Surv. Chief Gabby Okeke, described the visit as the beginning of what he hoped would become a productive and enduring partnership between the professional body and the University.
‎
‎
‎Sury Okeke said the Institution remains committed to promoting professional education and capacity development, stressing that the establishment of a Department of Surveying at COOU is one of its major priorities. “We believe your administration has the vision and leadership to make this a reality,” Okeke said, as he presented gifts to the Vice-Chancellor as a token of goodwill and appreciation.

‎
‎Responding, Prof. Omenugha expressed gratitude for the visit and congratulatory gesture, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that will enhance the University’s academic profile.
‎
‎
She said her administration is guided by the principles of Values, Viability and Visibility (3Vs), which underpin the institution’s vision of becoming both the “Now University” and the “University of the Future.”
‎

‎Prof. Omenugha also commended the dedication of the University’s management team, particularly the Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, alongside other principal officers, describing them as a formidable team driving the institution’s transformation agenda.
‎
‎
She assured the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors of COOU’s readiness to embrace partnerships that would expand academic programmes, strengthen professional education and contribute to national development.
