Nine residents of the Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre, Nteje, Anambra, on Sept. 20, have been reunited with their families after completing rehabilitation programmes and acquiring vocational skills.
The beneficiaries were formally reintegrated into their communities at a send off ceremony attended by government officials, centre management and staff, families and community members.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, who represented the First Lady of Anambra, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, said the initiative was aimed at helping vulnerable persons regain independence and reintegrate into society.

Onyekesi said the beneficiaries received vocational training, particularly in baking, during their stay at the centre to equip them with skills for self reliance.
She said each of the nine beneficiaries received bags of flour, baking equipment and a take off grant to enable them establish small scale businesses in their communities.

The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, grants and skills acquired to build sustainable livelihoods.
She commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the First Lady for supporting the rehabilitation and empowerment of vulnerable persons in the state.

Onyekesi also commended the management and staff of the centre for their dedication to the care and rehabilitation of the beneficiaries.
She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to the continued protection, rehabilitation, empowerment and reintegration of vulnerable persons in Anambra.
