‎The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in partnership with the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (ASEMA), has commenced the distribution of relief materials donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to vulnerable households in Anambra State.
‎
‎The flag-off ceremony, held on June 25 in Awka South Local Government Area, marked the beginning of the distribution of food baskets to vulnerable residents across selected local government areas, as part of efforts to ease the impact of the prevailing economic hardship.
‎

‎Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who was represented by the Director of NEMA’s South-East Zone, Mr. Walson Brandon, disclosed that KSrelief donated a total of 24,302 food baskets for direct distribution to vulnerable persons in Anambra, Benue, Kebbi, Taraba and Yobe states.
‎
‎She described the initiative as a humanitarian partnership between NEMA and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, applauding KSrelief and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their continued commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians, particularly those affected by displacement, insecurity, disasters and the country’s current economic challenges.
‎

‎Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the Anambra State Government, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnaka, expressed gratitude to KSrelief, the Federal Government and NEMA for extending the intervention to vulnerable residents of the state.
‎
‎She also commended NEMA and ASEMA for ensuring that beneficiaries were properly profiled, thereby promoting transparency and fairness in the distribution process.
‎

‎Mrs. Nnaka further urged residents to remain alert as the rainy season intensifies, advising them to take preventive measures against flooding by keeping drainage channels free from obstruction and adhering to flood safety guidelines to protect lives and property.
‎

‎Earlier, the Deputy Director of ASEMA, Mrs. Ndidi Omega, said the relief materials would be distributed to beneficiaries in Awka South, Awka North, Ogbaru, Orumba North, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelum and Nnewi South Local Government Areas.
‎According to the organisers, each food basket contains a 25kg bag of rice, a 25kg bag of beans and a carton of condiments.
‎
‎ The distribution is part of a nationwide humanitarian programme aimed at improving food security for vulnerable households while strengthening collaboration between government agencies and international humanitarian partners.
