The Executive Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Edith Nkeiru Ndive, has appealed for calm following renewed hostilities between Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities.
The hostilities are reportedly linked to a longstanding land and boundary dispute between the two communities, with tensions escalating on Oct. 1 and raising concerns over the safety of residents in the affected areas.
In a statement, Ndive urged residents of the affected and neighbouring communities to remain calm, peaceful and law abiding in the interest of public safety.

She advised residents to refrain from spreading rumours, provocative messages and actions capable of aggravating the situation.
The mayor also called on traditional rulers, community leaders and youth leaders to promote peace and support efforts to restore calm in the affected communities.
Ndive urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and avoid taking the law into their own hands, stressing that disagreements should be resolved through dialogue and lawful means.
She commiserated with families affected by the loss of lives, particularly the people of Umueze Anam over the death of their son and the people of Umuoba Anam over the loss of a child.
Ndive described the deaths as painful and regrettable, saying no disagreement should result in the loss of innocent lives.
“Every life matters. No disagreement is worth the loss of a human life. Let us choose peace, restraint and dialogue,” she appealed.
Ndive reaffirmed her commitment to the safety and unity of Anambra West, urging all communities to work together to protect lives and property and promote peaceful coexistence.
