The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has on Sept 25, constituted a nine-member Credentials Committee to coordinate preparations for the Association’s 2026 Triennial National Delegates Conference scheduled to hold in November. The decision was taken at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of NAWOJ held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
Addressing members of the newly constituted committee, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Aishatu Ibrahim, charged them to discharge their responsibilities with fairness, impartiality and professionalism.
Ibrahim stressed the need for strict adherence to the Constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and other relevant regulations guiding the Association, noting that due process and respect for established rules were essential to maintaining the integrity, unity and credibility of NAWOJ.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, who urged members to carry out their assignment with integrity, patriotism and professionalism.
Abdullahi charged the committee to ensure that the electoral process was free, fair, credible and transparent, with an outcome acceptable to all stakeholders. He also commended NAWOJ for its commitment to democratic principles and urged the members to be guided by the NUJ Constitution in the discharge of their duties.
The nine-member committee is chaired by Comrade Rajab Mohammed, with Comrades Nsibiet John, Maureen Sheyin, Abisola Ariwodola, Stephanie Ude, Grace Akwe Ogbayi, Rashida Yusuf, Grace Orumieyefa and Farida Abubakar as members.
The committee, which has representatives from Zones A to F, is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the necessary processes towards the successful organisation and conduct of the 2026 NAWOJ Triennial National Delegates Conference.
The NAWOJ National Secretariat called on members and stakeholders to give the committee the necessary cooperation and support to enable it discharge its mandate effectively.
