MOTHER OF ALL EMPOWERMENT: MAYOR AMAKA OBI EQUIPS IDEMILI SOUTH RESIDENTS FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS

Residents of Idemili South Local Government Area(LGA) have received a major boost to their livelihoods as the Mayor, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi (Iyom Ife-Abata), launched the “Mother of All Empowerment” programme, providing business equipment to beneficiaries of the LGA’s skill acquisition training.

The empowerment programme, held on Aug. 28, was designed to help trainees move beyond acquiring skills to establishing sustainable businesses and becoming economically self reliant.

The event attracted government officials, party leaders, community stakeholders and residents, who gathered to witness the distribution of equipment to beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries received items including ovens for bakers, sewing machines for fashion designers, motorcycles, shuttle buses and other business tools tailored to their areas of training.

The initiative seeks to address a major challenge often faced by people who complete skills acquisition programmes the lack of equipment and resources needed to put their newly acquired skills into practice.

With the provision of ovens, for instance, trained bakers can begin production and generate income, while fashion designers can use the sewing machines to establish or expand their businesses. Other beneficiaries can deploy the motorcycles and shuttle buses to support their businesses and livelihoods.

Speaking at the event, the Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, commended Mayor Amaka Obi for her commitment to improving the welfare of residents.

Dr. Soludo described the mayor as a “naked wire”, an expression used locally to recognise her energetic and tireless approach to leadership and public service.

The first lady applauded the decision to provide equipment after skills training, stressing that empowerment becomes more meaningful when beneficiaries receive practical support to apply what they have learned.

She noted that such interventions could help beneficiaries become productive, self reliant and active contributors to the state’s economy.

In her remarks, Mayor Amaka Obi explained the philosophy behind the programme, saying, “Teach people a skill, give them the tools and create an opportunity for them to succeed.”

She urged the beneficiaries to regard the equipment as an opportunity and a responsibility to build sustainable businesses, improve their families’ livelihoods and contribute to the development of the local government.

The event attracted the presence of APGA State Chairman, Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye; APGA candidate for Idemili North/South Federal Constituency, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike; Commissioner for Youth; Deputy Mayor, Hon. Ifeanyi; Mayoral Candidate, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu; alongside other party executives, government officials and community leaders.

The “Mother of All Empowerment” programme reflects a practical approach to grassroots development moving beneficiaries from skills acquisition to equipment, from equipment to enterprise, and from enterprise to improved livelihoods.
