‎The Mayor-elect of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Ikechukwu Mofunanya, has expressed gratitude to residents for electing him on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), describing his victory as a collective achievement.
‎
‎Hon. Mofunanya, who spoke at the council secretariat on Aug. 29, described the local government election as peaceful and well-organised, noting that voters turned out in large numbers and election materials reportedly arrived as early as 7:55 a.m.
‎
‎He attributed his victory to the popularity of APGA and the developmental achievements of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, promising to sustain and replicate the administration’s development initiatives in Onitsha South.
‎
‎The Mayor-elect highlighted the construction and commissioning of 15 roads in the area, as well as the newly built General Hospital, where residents have benefited from free antenatal services and Caesarean section deliveries.
‎
‎He pledged to ensure continuity, improve service delivery and build on the developmental achievements of previous administrations, stressing that transformation would remain the guiding principle of his administration.
‎
‎On youth empowerment, Hon. Mofunanya disclosed that he had already commenced engagements with unemployed youths in the local government, promising to enrol them in the state government’s “1 Youth 2 Skills” programme to equip them with skills for self-reliance.
‎
‎Also speaking, the outgoing Secretary of the council, Mr. Paul Osuschara, Esq., commended the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
‎He also appreciated members of the media for their role in monitoring and reporting the election.
