The Mayor-elect of Onitsha South Local Government Area Hon. Ikechukwu Peter Mofunanya, received his Certificate of Return from the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), on September 1 following his victory in the recently concluded Local Government elections.
The presentation of the certificate marked a significant step towards the inauguration of the incoming administration and the actualization of Mofunanya’s vision for a greater, safer and more developed Onitsha South.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Mofunanya expressed confidence in his victory, attributing his success to the popularity of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the developmental achievements of the Anambra State Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
“I was confident of victory because I contested on the platform of a popular party as a popular candidate. Governor Chukwuma Soludo has done marvellously well, and I will replicate his developmental strides in Onitsha South,” he stated.
The Mayor-elect said that Onitsha South had benefited significantly from the Soludo administration, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and healthcare.
According to him, 15 roads have been constructed and commissioned in Onitsha South, while the newly built General Hospital has also continued to provide healthcare benefits to residents.
He particularly highlighted the state government’s free antenatal care programme, noting that many women in the area had benefited from the initiative, including access to Caesarean deliveries.
Mofunanya assured residents that his administration would prioritize their welfare, promote meaningful development and work closely with stakeholders to build on the achievements recorded in the area.
With the Certificate of Return now in hand, expectations are high as Onitsha South prepares for a new chapter of purposeful leadership, inclusive governance and accelerated development under Mofunanya.
