The Anambra State Ministry of Power has conducted a comprehensive technical assessment of the Anambra State Urban Water Assets Holding Corporation (ASUWAHC) as part of plans to install a solar-powered energy system aimed at improving operational efficiency and service delivery.

The assessment, carried out on July 22, followed a request by the Officer in Charge of ASUWAHC, Mrs. Emmanuella Okafor, to the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu, seeking government support for an alternative and sustainable power source for the Corporation.

In response, the commissioner directed the ministry’s electrical department to evaluate the corporation’s facilities and determine the feasibility of deploying a solar energy system.

The proposed project is expected to provide a reliable and sustainable electricity supply, reduce dependence on the national grid, lower operational costs and ensure uninterrupted administrative and technical operations during power outages.

The technical assessment was led by Engr. Ebuka Dimaka of the Ministry’s Electrical Department, alongside a team of engineers. They worked closely with ASUWAHC’s technical team, led by Engr. Francis C. Udoh and Engr. Barth Ekpenye, who provided technical support and guided the inspection of the Corporation’s facilities.

During the exercise, the team evaluated the existing electrical infrastructure, assessed energy consumption needs, identified suitable installation locations and examined other technical requirements necessary for the successful implementation of the proposed solar power system.

Speaking after the assessment, Mrs. Okafor thanked the commissioner for his prompt response to the corporation’s request, describing the proposed solar project as a strategic investment that would significantly enhance operational efficiency and strengthen service delivery.

She noted that the adoption of renewable energy aligns with ASUWAHC’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and the delivery of reliable water services to residents of Anambra State.

The technical assessment marks another step in the corporation’s efforts to modernize its operations through clean energy solutions. Once implemented, the project is expected to improve energy efficiency, strengthen institutional capacity and support the delivery of sustainable water services across the state.
