The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has called on intending pilgrims to approach pilgrimage as a sacred spiritual undertaking rather than a recreational journey, emphasizing the importance of spiritual renewal and purposeful living.
Dr. Mefor made the call on June 17, while receiving members of the Anambra State Pilgrims Welfare Board during a courtesy visit to his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka. He urged the board to intensify efforts in educating pilgrims on the true significance and objectives of pilgrimage.
According to the commissioner, pilgrimage should serve as an opportunity for deeper spiritual reflection, personal transformation, and a renewed commitment to God and humanity. He encouraged participants to remain mindful of their responsibilities and to embrace values that promote purposeful living.

Dr. Mefor also praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership, describing him as a visionary and spiritually conscious leader dedicated to improving the welfare of the people. He noted that the administration’s policies are anchored on compassion, inclusiveness, and a determination to uplift vulnerable and underserved communities across the state.
Highlighting some of the administration’s achievements, he cited the construction of roads in previously neglected areas, the transformation of Okpoko, the extension of free education to public secondary schools, and the provision of free antenatal care, delivery services, and medication for pregnant women.
He said these initiatives reflect a deliberate commitment to people-centred governance, adding that Governor Soludo’s passion for service stems from his desire to give back to the state that contributed to his growth and success.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pilgrims Affairs, Barr. Odira Ezeh, congratulated Dr. Mefor on his reappointment, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of his achievements during his first tenure in office.
Barr. Ezeh noted that the visit provided an opportunity to brief the Ministry on the governor’s vision and programmes for the Pilgrims Welfare Board. He explained that the engagement was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Pilgrims Welfare Board and the ministry in the areas of public awareness, information dissemination, and stakeholder engagement.

According to him, the partnership would help ensure that Ndi Anambra are adequately informed about Governor Soludo’s initiatives and developmental plans for the board adding that the governor has made substantial investments in the Pilgrims Welfare Board.
He stressed the need for effective communication strategies to enable residents understand and benefit from the opportunities provided through its programmes. He added that improved publicity would enhance public appreciation of the government’s efforts in promoting the spiritual welfare of the people.
