The Unified Drivers Welfare Club of Nigeria (UDWCN) has sought a strategic partnership with the Anambra State Ministry of Information and Value Reformation to promote responsible driving, good conduct and positive values across the state.

The association made the move during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner, Dr Law Mefor, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Awka on September 1.

National Coordinator, Unified Driver’s Welfare Club, Elvis Oliver Okorie, introduced leaders from various transport sectors, including taxi, tricycle, motorcycle and mini-truck operators, who expressed their readiness to support the ministry’s value-reformation mandate.

Okorie said the association represents more than 120,000 transport operators, describing the sector as a powerful platform for reaching residents through daily interactions with passengers and communities.

He stressed that drivers have an important role to play in promoting respectful communication, cleanliness, discipline and responsible behaviour on Anambra roads.

The association also presented Dr Law Mefor as its Grand Patron, seeking his guidance and support in advancing drivers’ welfare and encouraging higher standards among transport operators.

Responding, Dr Mefor welcomed the initiative, describing the proposed partnership as timely and strategic to the ministry’s efforts to achieve meaningful behavioural change across Anambra.

The Commissioner urged the participating transport bodies to nominate representatives to the ministry’s technical committee, noting that their contributions would help shape the state’s value-reformation framework and ensure wider participation.

Mefor said the ministry was building a “coalition of the willing” involving transport organizations, communities, civil society groups, churches and academic institutions, stressing that transforming Anambra requires collective commitment.
