The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has secured all 21 chairmanship and 326 councillorship positions in the recently concluded Anambra State local government election.
Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor described the outcome as a resounding victory, saying it further demonstrated APGA’s strong political presence and growing dominance across Anambra State.
Dr Law said the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission had released its timetable, giving political parties the opportunity to nominate candidates for the various positions.
According to him, APGA was the only party that fielded candidates in all the 326 wards and opposition only in Anambra East for Chairmanship and in 6 wards.
The APGA candidate won the Anambra East contest convincingly, and also in the remaining 20 local government areas emerged unopposed.
He added that APGA also won all six wards where opposition candidates contested, completing a clean sweep of the chairmanship and councillorship positions.
Mefor described the result as further consolidation of APGA’s political strength, attributing the development partly to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s leadership and recent electoral victory.
He urged the newly elected mayors and councillors to justify the confidence reposed in them, stressing that the overwhelming victory carries greater responsibility to deliver effective governance.
