The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, joined religious leaders, dignitaries, and the Christian faithful on feb. 23, at All Saints Cathedral Church, Onitsha, for a significant ceremony marking the collation of six Venerables and 10 Canons by the Diocese on the Niger.

The service, led by Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen C. Nwokolo, saw the formal induction of six Venerables and 10 Canons, marking a significant milestone in the Church’s ongoing commitment to strong spiritual leadership.

A powerful sermon delivered by Rev. Dr. Dave Udezika resonated with the congregation, as he called on the newly ordained clergy to embody unwavering integrity and serve as a moral bulwark amid a time when societal values are under constant challenge.

Emphasizing the need for leaders who “stand in the gap”, Dr. Udezika urged the clergy and their families to steadfastly uphold the truth in an era increasingly swayed by comforting yet diluted ideals.

Expressing his honor at being part of the occasion, Mayor Nwora remarked, “This ceremony is a celebration of our community’s enduring faith and the vital role that spiritual leaders play in shaping a future rooted in truth and compassion. I congratulate our newly ordained leaders and encourage them to lead with unwavering conviction”.

The event attracted a distinguished assembly of religious and community leaders, including Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi of the Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Ikechukwu Egbuonu of the Oji River Diocese, HRH Prof. Charles Anikweze (Igwe Awkuzu), Sir Nnamdi Ibegbu SAN, Chancellor of the Niger Diocese, and former federal legislator Hon. Jesse Balonwu, among others.

The collation ceremony not only celebrated the induction of new ecclesiastical leaders but also reinforced a collective pledge to nurture a community defined by moral strength, compassion, and enduring hope.
