The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Amaka Obi has pledged to rehabilitate Ogunzelle Primary School, Awka-Etiti, following an unscheduled inspection visit to the institution on June 23.
During the visit, the Mayor expressed concern over the deplorable state of the school, citing dilapidated classrooms, poor sanitation, inadequate security, and the unfavorable learning conditions endured by pupils.
Hon. Obi was on her way to flag off a road project in Ogunzelle when she stopped to assess the condition of the school firsthand.
She noted that the state of the facility falls short of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of providing accessible and quality basic infrastructure for children across Anambra State.
According to the Mayor, the health, safety, and overall learning environment of children remain top priorities of her administration.
She also charged councillors in the local government to be more proactive in attracting and facilitating development projects within their respective wards.
Emphasising the importance of education, Hon. Obi stated that quality education is a fundamental right of every child and should not be treated as a privilege reserved for a few.
She assured residents that necessary steps would be taken to improve the school’s infrastructure and provide pupils in Idemili South with a conducive environment for learning.
The Mayor reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to advancing educational development, noting that Idemili South is steadily rising through deliberate investments in schools and the future of its children.
