The Diocesan Bishop on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo (JP, FITH-PUA), has urged Christians to live purposeful lives and remain steadfast in their faith, reminding believers that life is fleeting and death can come unexpectedly.
Bishop Nwokolo made the call during the funeral service of the late Rev. Chukwuebuka Theophilus Ekemezie held on June 4 at SS Peter and Paul Anglican Church, Isiakpu Nise, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Addressing mourners, clergy, family members and members of the Anglican Communion, the Bishop reflected on the brevity of life, encouraging Christians to make meaningful use of their time on earth through dedicated service to God and humanity.
“Life is so fleeting, and everyone created by God has an appointment with death at a time known only to Him. Therefore, make the most of your time on earth because you do not know when death will come,” he said.

Paying tribute to the late cleric, Bishop Nwokolo described Rev. Ekemezie as a devoted servant of God whose life and ministry were marked by commitment, humility and dedication to the advancement of God’s kingdom.
He recalled that the deceased was among the nineteen clergy ordained into the priesthood on July 18, 2021, noting that his sudden passing came as a painful shock to the Diocese on the Niger.
The Bishop, however, urged the bereaved family, friends and members of the church to draw strength from God and remain steadfast in faith despite their loss.

“Our consolation is that we will continue to look unto God and follow His leading,” he said.
In a remarkable demonstration of pastoral care and support, Bishop Nwokolo announced that the late priest’s basic salary would continue to be paid to his widow and children until he would have attained retirement age.
He also commended Venerable Dr. Dave Udoezika and other well-meaning individuals who, with the support of the Diocese on the Niger, facilitated the construction of a three-bedroom en-suite bungalow for the widow and children of the deceased.

Describing the gesture as practical Christianity in action, the Bishop emphasized the importance of supporting bereaved families and caring for members of the church during difficult moments.
Until his death, Rev. Ekemezie served as the Vicar of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Abatete, where he was widely respected for his dedication to ministry, compassionate leadership and unwavering commitment to the spiritual growth of his congregation.

The funeral service featured prayers, hymns and tributes celebrating the life and service of the late cleric, whose impact on the Diocese on the Niger and the wider Anglican community was remembered with gratitude.
Though his ministry was cut short, speakers at the event noted that Rev. Ekemezie left behind a legacy of faith, service and devotion that will continue to inspire many.
