The Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, received members of the Anambra State House of Assembly on a courtesy and familiarization visit to his office in Awka on 24 June.
Leading the delegation, Chairman of the House Committee on Transport, Hon. Kingsley Udemezue, congratulated Ibuzo on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to reposition the transport sector through his experience and leadership.
The lawmakers commended the Commissioner’s commitment to public service and pledged the committee’s full support in advancing policies and programmes to improve transportation across the state.

Speaking at the meeting, Ibuzo welcomed the legislators and recalled his tenure as a two-time member of the Anambra State House of Assembly and former Chairman of the House Committee on Transport. He noted that collaboration between the legislature and executive remains critical to effective governance.
He urged the lawmakers to act as ambassadors of the Ministry of Transport and partners in ongoing sector reforms, stressing that their oversight and grassroots engagement would help identify challenges requiring government intervention.
The Commissioner also encouraged Assembly members to promptly report incidents of misconduct, extortion, recklessness, or other malpractices observed on Anambra roads, assuring them that the ministry remains committed to enforcing discipline, professionalism, and safety standards.
Outlining his vision, Ibuzo disclosed plans to implement a smart transport system leveraging technology to improve traffic management, enhance commuter safety, and create a more efficient network across the state.
“Transport moves society. A functional transport system is essential for economic growth and social development. Together, we will build a modern, efficient, and sustainable transport system for Anambra State,” the Commissioner said.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for Ibuzo to solicit legislative support for the passage of the Vehicle Inspection Services Bill, which he described as key to improving vehicle roadworthiness, strengthening safety compliance, and enhancing transport regulation in Anambra State.
