The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and the Anambra State Ministry of Commerce have commenced discussions on a potential strategic partnership aimed at strengthening commerce, trade, and economic cooperation between both institutions.

The discussions took place during a high-level meeting held on June 18, at Commerce House, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The meeting was chaired by the President of the LCCI, Engr. Leye Kupoluyi, and attended by the Anambra State Commissioner for Commerce, Hon. Nomso Ebonwu, the Director-General of the LCCI, Dr. Chinyere Almona, and other key officials.

During the meeting, both parties explored opportunities for collaboration that could help promote Anambra State’s industrial and commercial potential through the LCCI’s extensive local and international business networks.

Among the proposals discussed were facilitating engagements with foreign embassies, consulates, and international trade offices to create greater market access for products manufactured in Anambra State.

Discussions also focused on creating platforms that could strengthen business linkages and connect domestic and international enterprises with businesses operating within the state.

Other areas considered included the possible participation of Anambra State representatives in future LCCI-led trade missions and the development of capacity-building programmes for staff of the Ministry of Commerce and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The meeting also discussed the possibility of strengthening collaboration through activities associated with the Lagos International Trade Fair (LITF) and the Invest Nigeria Summit. Proposals considered included hosting an “Anambra State Day” during the fair to showcase the state’s commercial strengths, business opportunities, and trade potential, subject to the necessary approvals by the respective managements.

In addition, preliminary discussions were held on the feasibility of hosting a Southeast edition of the Invest Nigeria Summit in Anambra State, as well as the possibility of developing an export-focused summit to support trade expansion and regional economic growth.

According to the meeting minutes, the discussions provided a valuable platform for identifying areas of mutual interest and laid the groundwork for further engagement between both institutions.

The next step will involve the preparation of a detailed proposal outlining possible areas of cooperation, implementation frameworks, timelines, and service commitments for consideration and approval by the respective managements of both organizations.

The engagement reflects the commitment of the Anambra State Government, under the leadership of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to creating an enabling business-friendly environment and positioning Anambra as a leading destination for commerce, trade, and industrial growth.
