In furtherance of efforts to ensure that Anambra State remains free from any threat to lives and to guarantee a safe and secure environment, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi, rescued a kidnapped victim and apprehended three armed suspects during a coordinated operation in Idemili South Local Government Area.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the joint security team, acting on credible intelligence, raided a location in a bush at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi. During the operation, three suspects were arrested, and one locally fabricated Beretta pistol, along with cash totaling Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (N469,000) suspected to be ransom proceeds, was recovered.

SP Ikenga identified the suspects as Chidalu Obi, 25; Chichebem Ojenigbo, 26; and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20. He stated that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects lured the victim, an electrician, to the location under the guise of a job offer. Upon arrival, the victim was blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush in Umuezeala Awuda, where he was held in captivity.
The suspects have reportedly confessed to the offence and admitted to receiving a ransom of N469,000, which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to Chidalu Obi.
