INTERNATIONAL ARCHIVES DAY: SOLUDO’S DIGITAL REFORMS STRENGTHEN PRESERVATION OF ANAMBRA’S INSTITUTIONAL MEMORY

As the world commemorates International Archives Day, Anambra State’s ongoing digital transformation under Governor Chukwuma Soludo is drawing attention for its role in preserving government records and strengthening institutional memory.

Since assuming office, Governor Soludo has championed a digital governance agenda aimed at modernizing public service operations, improving efficiency, ensuring that critical government records are properly stored and easily accessible for future generations.

One of the administration’s major milestones is the introduction of the Anambra Geographic Information System (ANAMGIS), commissioned in 2025 to digitize land administration processes, providing a comprehensive database for land documentation, certification, authentication and record management, helping to safeguard vital land records across the state.

The government has also advanced the digitization of the civil service through the provision of computers and other digital tools to public servants, promoting electronic record-keeping and reducing reliance on paper-based documentation.

In addition, key aspects of budgeting, planning and financial management have been automated, creating digital repositories that enhance accountability, transparency and efficient data management.

Across ministries, departments and agencies, the adoption of digital databases, data analytics and technology-driven platforms is gradually transforming how government information is managed and preserved.

A fully developed state archive requires dedicated preservation facilities, cataloguing systems and historical record programmes and that is what Soludo administration’s digital reforms have laid a solid foundation for modern records management.

As Anambra embraces a technology-driven future, these initiatives are helping to ensure that valuable government records and public information are preserved as part of the state’s enduring legacy.
