The Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Amaka Obi, has expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress recorded by beneficiaries of the council’s Skills Acquisition Programme during an unscheduled inspection visit on 12 August.

Obi, accompanied by her team, visited beneficiaries from the 2024 and 2025 sets at their business locations, assessing the programme’s impact and witnessing firsthand how they were applying acquired skills to build sustainable livelihoods.

The visit enabled the Mayor to interact with young entrepreneurs, inspect their businesses and hear testimonies of growth and transformation. She expressed delight that the initiative had progressed from training to tangible economic results.

Obi noted that continuous monitoring and mentorship remained major components of the programme, stressing that her administration was committed to providing guidance and support to help beneficiaries translate their skills into sustainable livelihoods.

From baking, leatherwork, tailoring and arts to other creative enterprises, beneficiaries are producing proudly made-in-Idemili South bags, shoes, garments and quality products. Obi said their achievements demonstrated the value of deliberate investment in people.

The Mayor noted that many beneficiaries had progressed from trainees to entrepreneurs and, in some cases, employers of labour. She said their success demonstrated that properly supported skills acquisition can create lasting economic transformation.

According to Obi, her administration’s vision is to build a productive, self-reliant and economically empowered society where young people possess skills, confidence and opportunities to succeed. She also acknowledged Governor Soludo’s 1 Youth 2 Skills Programme.

Obi assured residents that her administration would continue prioritising empowerment initiatives and expanding opportunities for the people. She said the beneficiaries’ achievements showed that human capital investment creates businesses, employment, transforms lives and strengthens Idemili South.
