Hon. Chukwuemelie Ezennia Ibekwe, has called on eligible residents of Onitsha North to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that the future of the community depends on citizens taking part in the democratic process.

In a statement issued on today May 14, Ibekwe said meaningful development and effective representation can only be achieved when people register and exercise their right to vote during elections.

According to him, voter registration is more than a political exercise, describing it as a civic responsibility that gives citizens a voice in determining the future of their communities.

“The future of Onitsha North will not be decided by complaints or social media debates alone. It will be shaped by those who take action, register, and participate in the electoral process,” he stated.

He noted that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) empowers individuals to influence leadership decisions and ensure their interests are represented.

“When people refuse to participate, they allow others to make decisions about their future. No registration means no participation, and no participation means no representation,” the statement added.

Ibekwe further urged youths, traders, parents, and first-time voters to take advantage of the registration exercise and encourage others to do the same.

He maintained that active participation in elections remains essential for strengthening democracy, promoting accountable leadership, and driving sustainable development in Onitsha North.

The statement concluded with a call for residents to see their PVCs as instruments of change capable of shaping a better future for the community.
