The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Ezennia Albert Chukwuemelie Ibekwe, has charged the newly inaugurated 15 councillors representing the various wards in the council area to embrace unity, transparency and effective communication in the discharge of their duties. Ibekwe gave the charge on Oct. 6, during the inauguration of the councillors at the legislative chambers of the Onitsha North Local Government Council.

The mayor described governance as a call to service and humanity, urging the legislative and executive arms of the council to maintain open communication, mutual understanding and commitment to their responsibilities. He said his administration remained committed to the development of Onitsha North and the welfare of its residents, urging the councillors to give their best and support programmes and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the people.

Ibekwe assured the councillors of his administration’s willingness to work closely with the legislative arm, stressing that cooperation between both arms of government was essential to achieving the council’s development objectives. He urged them to prioritise the interests of their constituents and work collectively to address issues affecting residents across the 15 wards.

The newly inaugurated councillors are Ekene Ogene (Ward 1), Tochukwu Orakwue (Ward 2), Edward Chukwudi Enebeli (Ward 3), Nancy Nkiru Abadom (Ward 4), Francisjohn Nnamdi (Ward 5), Chukwudi Ndubuisi (Ward 6), Antonia Igweike (Ward 7), Akuluno (Ward 8), Oluchi Hamza Adams (Ward 9), Chijioke Okpalaugo (Ward 10), Obiora Obi (Ward 11), Johnpaul Okafor (Ward 12), Antony Asolo (Ward 13), Johnpaul Okwudilichukwu Okongwu (Ward 14) and Vivian Nkiru Okagbue (Ward 15).

The legislative leadership comprises Orakwue as Deputy Chief Whip, Enebeli as Chief Whip, Nnamdi as Deputy Leader, Okongwu as Majority Leader and Okagbue as Leader of the Congress of Councillors.

The inauguration marks the commencement of a new legislative administration in Onitsha North, with the councillors expected to effectively represent their respective wards and collaborate with the mayor on issues concerning the welfare, development and overall progress of the council area.
