The Senior Community Health Officer (SCHO) in charge of St. Monica’s Public Health Centre, Fegge, Onitsha, Mrs. Maureen Nwasike, has commended the Anambra State Government, led by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for donating two solar-powered freezers to the facility.
Mrs. Nwasike made this known during an interview with information officer at the health centre.
She noted that the solar freezers have significantly improved the preservation of medical supplies, thereby enhancing service delivery and making their work more efficient.
She also applauded the state government’s policies on free delivery services, immunization, antenatal care, and family planning.
According to her, these initiatives have contributed to reducing childbirth mortality rates and easing the financial burden on citizens.
However, the SCHO highlighted several challenges affecting the smooth operation of the centre, including the lack of a functional borehole, dilapidated roof, and the poor condition of the building.
She lamented that the centre currently relies on water vendors for its supply, which she said is inadequate for maintaining proper hygiene.
She further explained that the leaking roof allows rainwater into the facility during heavy downpours, disrupting activities.
Mrs. Nwasike, therefore, appealed to the state government to extend its infrastructural development efforts to the centre by providing a borehole and renovating the building to create a more conducive environment for both staff and patients.
