A Non-Governmental Organization, the Health and Community Education Initiative (HACEY), has concluded a three-day maternal health intervention aimed at strengthening maternal healthcare services and improving pregnancy outcomes in Anambra State.
The initiative, known as Project Agbebi, was held from June 30 to July 2 at two Primary Healthcare Centres in Nkpor and Umuoji, bringing together primary healthcare workers and pregnant women for intensive maternal health education.
Speaking during the programme, the State Coordinator, Dietician Chioma Elokoye, said the intervention was designed to equip expectant mothers with vital knowledge on safe pregnancy and childbirth as part of efforts to reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Victory Oknokwo, expressed gratitude to HACEY and its partners for prioritising the welfare of pregnant women. She appealed for the initiative to be sustained and expanded to more communities across the state.
Another participant, Mrs. Francisca Uzodimma, commended the organisation for providing women with valuable education on maternal health and safe delivery practices. “You have done well for women and Ndi Anambra by enlightening and sensitising us on how to prevent maternal deaths,” she said.
At the end of the intervention, more than 100 pregnant women benefited from the programme, receiving maternal health education as well as birthing care kits to support them throughout pregnancy and childbirth.
