The Anambra State Government, through the Office of the Head of Service has commenced training programmes for Administrative Officers, Confidential Secretaries, Clerical Officers and other key personnel as part of the ongoing 2026 Anambra Human Resource Development Week, which featured free medical tests for workers.

Declaring the event open at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat Complex, Awka, the Head of Service, Mrs. Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, Esq., mni said the programme reflects the commitment of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to building a healthy, skilled and digitally competent Civil Service.

Iwouno explained that the Human Resource Development Week was designed for officers who play strategic roles in government operations, including serving as the first point of contact in offices, custodians of official records and key drivers of administrative processes across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

She noted that the training would later be extended to other professional cadres in the Civil Service.

According to her, participants are being trained in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), use of digital tools such as Zoom for virtual meetings and communication, office management practices, digital file management systems, ethics and etiquette.

The Head of Service added that the free medical and health check exercise was incorporated into the programme to promote wellness and healthy living among workers.

“Health is wealth, and early detection remains vital to disease prevention and management,” she said, adding that the modern workplace demands digital competence, professionalism and excellent ethical conduct.

She urged participants to embrace change, improve their skills and make the most of the training in order to become ambassadors of innovation, teamwork and ethical service delivery.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Nkiru Jessie Nwankwo, Esq., reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a competent, reform-oriented and result-driven Public Service.

A resource person and Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Florence Idigo Ibenta, who handled a session on ethics and etiquette, stressed the need for officers to gain public trust through adherence to laid-down principles and professional standards.

She described ethical conduct as essential to restoring public confidence and dignity in the Civil Service.

Sessions on ICT and Office Management Practices were facilitated by Mr. Ezeabikwa Obiora of the State ICT Agency and Mrs. Mercy Aghamba of the Staff Development Centre.

Some of the participants, Mr. Samuel Ilozue and Mrs. Maureen Chris Anidebe, commended the State Government for equipping civil servants with relevant technological skills needed to align with the ongoing transformation agenda of the state.

They described the programme as impactful and beneficial to workers.

Dignitaries present at the training included the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Martin Agbili; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Sir Victor Ezekwo, as well as directors and other senior government officials.
