The Anambra State Government has released a white paper endorsing the legitimacy of Chief Gibson Nwosu as the traditional ruler of Awka, effectively resolving a long-standing dispute over the community’s stool.
In a letter dated April 9, 2026, from Tobechukwu Nweke, the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the government confirmed that Chief Nwosu, known as Eze Uzu II, remains the recognized Eze Awka and was never dethroned.
The white paper, dated March 27, 2026, signed by the Attorney-General, and already gazetted, ruled that Chief Austin Ndigwe was not validly selected or installed and thus cannot act as traditional ruler.

Officials expressed hope that the decision will end all controversies surrounding Awka’s leadership.
Individuals or organizations seeking a certified true copy of the commission’s report may submit an application to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
