The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has pardoned Native Doctor Chidozie Nwanyi, also known as Akwa Okuku Tiwara Aki, who was sentenced to 11 months imprisonment following a High Court decision in Awka in February 2026.
The governor announced the pardon during a visit to the Amawbia Correctional Centre today, September 18.

He said that the pardon was not only to free the native doctor but also to support the welfare and well-being of the inmates.
“I will sign the release papers immediately. Let’s focus on reforming Anambra,” he said.
As part of this initiative, Governor Soludo also visited and inspected the Waterside custodial facility in Onitsha.

Akwa Okuku was among eight native doctors arrested last year for involvement in fetish practices (oki-ite), quick wealth schemes, and the use of human parts for rituals. Earlier this year, he reached a plea bargain with the state government.
