Anambra Government, through the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with EV Automobile Nigeria Limited, embarked on a three-day free training for over 1,000 transport operators at Women Development Center, Awka.
Declaring the workshop open on 17, September, Commissioner Edward Ibuzo said the initiative equips participants with relevant skills, promotes self-reliance, reduces dependence on white-collar jobs, and advances cleaner energy.

He said the programme aligns with Governor Soludo’s vision of building a prosperous, smart and sustainable Anambra State.
EV Automobile Nigeria Limited MD, Mr Obiora Okafor, described EVs as partially or fully electricity-powered, noting electric cars predated petrol cars until lithium-ion technology revived interest.
Mr Emeka explained that EVs are categorised by power source, noting Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are fully electric, powered solely by batteries and require charging.

He said Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) combine an internal-combustion engine with an electric motor and battery, switching automatically depending on driving conditions.
According to him, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) have larger externally-chargeable batteries and can run on electric power before petrol assists.

He added that Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) use electric power primarily but rely on small generators when batteries run low, noting hydrogen technology also generates propulsion electricity.

Drawn by emerging opportunities in electric mobility, stakeholders including RTEAN, NURTW, NARTO, student bus operators, NANS, COOU and NOCEN converged for the training.
