‎The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has intensified its road safety campaign across major markets and motor parks in the state as part of measures to reduce road traffic crashes during the 2026 Ember Months.
‎
‎The campaign, led by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, took the advocacy team to Eke and Amawbia markets on Sept 23, where commercial drivers, transport operators, traders, passengers and other road users were sensitised on the importance of obeying traffic regulations and prioritising safety.
‎
‎Asekhauno urged motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking, route violations, distracted driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
‎She also advised drivers to maintain lane discipline and exercise caution, particularly around busy markets and major roads, where the movement of vehicles and pedestrians could increase the risk of crashes.
‎
‎At the markets, market executives were urged to discourage roadside trading and indiscriminate parking, while pedestrians were advised to use designated crossings and remain vigilant when crossing busy roads.
‎
‎According to a statement by the Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, the FRSC team also visited several motor parks across the state, where drivers and transport stakeholders were advised to ensure that vehicles were roadworthy before embarking on journeys.
‎
‎The corps emphasised the need for regular inspection of critical vehicle components, including brakes, tyres, lights and wipers, noting that proper vehicle maintenance could help prevent avoidable crashes. The command called on members of the public to support its efforts to create a safer motoring environment in Anambra State and across Nigeria.
‎
‎It reaffirmed its commitment to continuous public enlightenment, stakeholder engagement and proactive interventions in line with its mandate and the 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal of reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries. The FRSC also reminded motorists and other road users that its toll-free emergency number, 122, is available for reporting road emergencies.
