The Vicar of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Akpo, Rev. Fr. Innocent Chinazaekpere Uwakwe, has called on Nigerians, particularly those in their productive years, to prepare thoroughly for the challenges that life presents.
Speaking during a Pentecost preparation Mass on May 10 at the church in Aguata Local Government Area, the cleric noted that personal growth and development are attained through the ability to overcome obstacles. “There is nothing wrong with setting lofty goals, such as aspiring to become president, governor, or holding any high office,” he said. “It becomes an issue when one’s effort does not match the ambition.”
Fr. Uwakwe emphasized that preparation strengthens one’s capacity to address practical problems. “No reasonable person desires failure; everyone seeks success. Therefore, the right time to prepare is now, whether in primary, secondary, or tertiary education,” he stated.
Drawing from scripture, he referenced the 120 disciples who waited in the Upper Room as instructed by Jesus Christ. “Had they not obeyed and waited, they would not have received the Holy Spirit,” he explained. “Through their obedience and reception of the Spirit, they were empowered to accomplish great works for God’s kingdom.”
The priest urged the congregation to focus on diligent preparation rather than envy. “There is no merit in envying those who have succeeded. Instead, strive to succeed through righteousness. Devote time to preparing yourself to solve the problems of this world, and the outcome will be lasting fulfillment,” he concluded.
