‎The Federal Government has declared Aug.  25, a public holiday across Nigeria to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
‎
‎The holiday was declared by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, with the declaration formally conveyed in a document signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Aug. 21.
‎
‎In his statement, Tunji-Ojo extended greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and in the diaspora. He also called on all Nigerians to reflect on the values of the season. He further stated that every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.
‎
‎The minister emphasised that these values are essential to the nation’s progress, urging all Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation, to reflect on and uphold them.
‎
‎He further called on citizens to use the holiday as an opportunity for prayer, reflection and renewed commitment to peace and national unity, stressing that the responsibility for fostering a peaceful and united Nigeria rests on all citizens, regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.
