Tension is rising among aspirants contesting for the State House of Assembly seat in Okpoko, Ogbaru 1 Constituency, following the declaration of interest by the serving Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Sir Kenneth Akwuobi.

Although his ambition had long been speculated, it was recently confirmed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) stakeholders, party stalwarts, and ward chairmen across the six wards in the constituency.

Akwuobi’s entry into the race has significantly altered the political landscape in Okpoko, with growing public interest and support shifting in his favour.

Reports indicate that some contenders have attempted to persuade him to step down through influential intermediaries, but he has remained firm in his decision to test his political strength.

Stakeholders in the area described his emergence as timely, noting that the community has been yearning for a vibrant and credible representative to complement the ongoing transformation under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

They expressed strong confidence in Akwuobi’s leadership, describing him as a tested and trusted figure whose performance in Ogbaru, particularly in Atani, is visible and impactful.

According to them, his candidacy has rekindled hope among residents who are eager for purposeful representation and a departure from what they described as years of ineffective leadership.
