Fatal road accident has claimed the life of a male adult at Immigration Junction, Agu Awka, along the Awka – Enugu Expressway in Awka, Anambra State.
The incident, which occurred around 11:00 a.m., involved a fully loaded LPG tanker and a commercial tricycle (keke). According to reports, the tricycle rider was attempting to navigate through traffic diverted by security personnel due to ongoing road construction when the tanker, allegedly experiencing brake failure, lost control and ran over him.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, confirmed that the victim died on the spot, while the tanker driver was rescued unhurt.
FRSC rescue operatives arrived promptly at the scene and evacuated the remains of the deceased to the morgue of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital. The State Fire Service was also placed on standby to prevent any possible explosion due to the tanker’s LPG content.

Preliminary findings by the FRSC attribute the crash to brake failure which led to loss of control of the tanker.
Reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, described the crash as avoidable and urged drivers, especially operators of heavy duty vehicles, to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and adhere strictly to speed limits, particularly around junctions and construction zones.
FRSC further reiterated its commitment to road safety through enforcement, rescue operations and public awareness, while advising road users to remain cautious at all times.
